Eldryn: Realms Awaken is the kind of game that comes along once in a generation. From the moment you crest the first ridge and the sprawling valley of Highnor unfolds before you, it's clear that the development team has poured extraordinary care into every square metre of this world.
The combat system strikes a rare balance between accessibility and depth. Light and heavy attacks chain into fluid combos, while the spell-weaving mechanic — which lets you layer elemental effects in real time — rewards experimentation without punishing newcomers. After 40 hours, I was still discovering new combinations.
The story is equally impressive. The main quest follows a disgraced knight navigating a fractured kingdom, but it's the side quests that truly elevate the narrative. Each settlement has its own political tensions, moral dilemmas, and characters whose motivations feel genuinely human. I found myself delaying the main quest repeatedly just to see how local storylines resolved.
Visually, Eldryn is stunning. The lighting engine produces breathtaking sunrises over misty valleys, and the character models are among the most detailed we've seen in an open-world RPG. Performance on PC is excellent; console players may notice occasional frame dips in dense areas, but nothing that disrupts the experience.
If there's a criticism, it's that the inventory management system feels dated compared to the rest of the game's polish. Managing crafting materials across dozens of categories becomes tedious by the midgame. It's a minor gripe in an otherwise masterful package.
Verdict: Eldryn: Realms Awaken is a landmark RPG that deserves a place in any serious gamer's library. It's ambitious, beautiful, and deeply rewarding — a genuine contender for game of the year.
