Neon Wars drops you into a rain-soaked megacity in the grip of corporate warfare, and it never lets up. From the opening sequence — a desperate rooftop escape through a collapsing building — the game establishes its relentless pace and refuses to break it.
The shooting mechanics are exceptional. Weapons feel weighty and distinct, and the movement system — which blends wall-running, slide-dashing, and grapple hooks — creates a kinetic flow that rivals the best in the genre. Encounters reward aggression; standing still is a death sentence.
The cyberpunk aesthetic is executed with real flair. Neon-drenched streets, holographic advertisements, and oppressive megastructures create a world that feels genuinely lived-in. The soundtrack — a pulsing blend of industrial electronic and orchestral tension — is one of the best gaming scores of the year.
Where Neon Wars stumbles slightly is in its narrative. The story of a mercenary uncovering a corporate conspiracy is competent but predictable. The characters are serviceable rather than memorable, and the dialogue occasionally veers into genre cliché. For a game this visually inventive, the writing feels like a missed opportunity.
Verdict: Neon Wars is a mechanically brilliant FPS that delivers one of the most satisfying shooting experiences in recent memory. The story won't win awards, but the gameplay absolutely will.
